Having had his mitral valve replaced and later been diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation, Roy has been taking warfarin since 2007. “To be honest, I had no problem with warfarin but it was such a hassle attending my appointments at the hospital.” Having asked about self-monitoring at his local hospital, he was told that they supported the option and he purchased his CoaguChek device as a result.
Now that he self-monitors, Roy has enjoyed some of the benefits of self-monitoring. “Instead of taking time off work, I can just make a phone call and know my dose straight away. So I save my holidays for going on holiday.” He shares his experiences and advises people considering self-monitoring that they shouldn’t be afraid to challenge their healthcare professional – “If you you want to self-test, go for it!” CoaguChek has made a real difference to Roy’s life and he feels that, “It could make a difference to yours.”
